Dr. Lacy Glass is traveling by rail to an archaeological dig in central Turkey when she sees a man she befriended hours earlier fly past the window of the train. Dead. If not for her, he wouldn't have even been on the train so she feels responsible.
When she arrives at the dig she learns that the dig's backer, a wealthy American, has died there that same morning. Problem? Both men seem to have been named Maxwell Sebring.

Dr. Lacy Glass is traveling by train to join up with members of an archaeological dig in Turkey. She sees a body fly by the window and realises it is a man she had spoken to a little earlier in the day. She doesn't think too much about it until she gets to the dig later on that day. Turns out the dig is facing its own set of problems as their financial backer, a rich American and who was visiting the dig, has died. She is shocked and then intrigued to discover that both men have the same name. Coincidence? She thinks not.Maria Hudgins does a wonderful job of bringing modern day archeological digs to life in her books. Gone are the Agatha Christie early 1900's digs. Ms. Hudgins is able to bring in facts about archeology without being boring. "The Man on the Istanbul Train" has more twists and turns than a race track, yet she does a masterful job of keeping the reader engaged.
This was a solid book, and was the second one of hers I had read. I downloaded another one for free on my Kindle but liked it so much that I bought this one, and I am very glad I did.

The Man on the Istanbul Train A Lacy Glass Archaeology Mystery Book 2 edition by Maria Hudgins Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Intriguing details, excellent plot, likable characters. Sometimes Lacy makes some extraordinary leaps of insight, but it is an enjoyable trip wherever she goes!
I like to read books that are about Turkey to remember what a gorgeous country it is with an amazing culture. Although well written, this book was rather shallow on character development and descriptions of setting. It was an action mystery story that had you continually guessing about who was doing the crime. The book kept me interested, but it did not fulfill my wishes about being steeped in a Turkish cultural experience.
I enjoyed the local and the descriptions seemed to mesh with other books I've read set in the same area, so, I think the research was there. The mystery was well plotted and not too predictable and HOORAY the book was edited so no horrible grammar errors. I've seen them in publ. company books as well but we all know self published books are prone to them. It was refreshing to read an e-book without having to figure out what the author meant to say!!
Dr. Lacy Glass is on her way to an archaeological dig when she helps a clearly desperate man purchase a ticket for the same destination as hers. Along the way, she sees his body fall from the moving train. When his dead body is recovered, she feels responsible for the man (after all, she did pay for his ticket), and thus begins her investigation into the man's identity and his connection to her former lover's dig.
This story is a murder mystery with a little romance thrown in. Lacy's determination to find out who the man on the train almost gets her killed more than once and may have an impact on whole project she is brought to assist.
In Maria Hudgins's The Man on the Istanbul Train, the second installment in the Lacy Glass series, she had written a gripping tale from start to finish. For archeologist Lacy Glass, it all started for her on a train ride to Istanbul in Turkey to check out a dig. From there, the mystery had unraveled with the unearthing of a new dead body, and a police imposter. With an assault on a colleague and a traitor in their midst, there's been many attempts on her life, while she dug into the real truth to discover the truth behind shady dealings and an antiquity smuggling across the border. In the final scenes, she figured out who done it and why.
This is a murder mystery written around an archeological dig in Turkey. It’s written as a traditional Murder Mystery with a lot of twists, turns and misdirection designed to keep the reader guessing. It’s fairly well written and properly edited which is a big plus with self-published e-books. In spite of 2 major plot holes I found it somewhat entertaining, but I could only rate it 3 stars.
This story has Lacy Glass, an archeologist, who has an interest in how color worked in ancient times. She has been asked by a friend to join him on his current "dig" site and give her opinion on pottery shard samples. On the train trip to the site she sees a body "flying" past the train. After succeeding in stopping the train, she discovers that she recognizes the dead person is the one she helped in paying for his ride. Now, for Lacy, there is an overriding need to ID this person and find out who killed him. She knows she is the only one who can unlock the mystery.
This is a good murder mystery with chaotic scenes in Istanbul and at, or around, the "dig" site. Of course, Lacy is square in the middle of the action. Sometimes you will be rooting for her and, at other times, you will want to cover your eyes and wail at her stupidity, but you will have fun reading this novel. If you read carefully you can figure out the murderer.
However, in her lengthy wrap up the author left holes. You didn't get to know if Peter turned in the item burning a hole in his pocket, or whether Turner was part of the smuggling problem, or how Milo managed to escaped becoming one of GoldenBoy's victims, or, most importantly, (laughing) how Lacy manages to stay cognizant after so many head injuries/blackouts.
You're smart and like a solving a mystery (figuring out who-done-it) before the author blatantly points you in the right direction, so you will enjoy this challenge. After reading this story, you will be asking for more, more, more - I guarantee you.
